Living a natural lifestyle, to include products, services, and FOODS, (plus all that’s in between), has been really important to me for many years. I enjoy doing research on what new products are out there, what new wellness trends might be the best for me, and what new companies are using the least amount of chemical shit-storms to make awesome goods. The good news is that I am sharing the best things I find with YOU, on a variety of different topics. My hope for you is that the information I provide will help guide you down your best personal wellness journey.

I like my products like I like my people: NON-TOXIC.
Have you heard that absolutely mortifying fact that is floating around stating the average woman puts 515 synthetic chemicals on her body EVERY day? The worst part being, over 60% of what we put on our skin is directly absorbed into our bodies.
I think it’s safe to assume that we all want safe, natural products. Thankfully, the wellness trends in beauty are here to stay, and will only continue to get better with time. But not all products are created equal and sometimes it’s hard to find the best one to do the right job.
I think it’s safe to assume that we all want safe, natural products. Thankfully, the wellness trends in beauty are here to stay, and will only continue to get better with time. But not all products are created equal and sometimes it’s hard to find the best one to do the right job. So let’s go through my bathroom counter and go over some of the basic products I use for hygiene care.
3 Natural Products for Hygiene Basics
(That Won’t Break Your Piggy Bank)
Finding a good deodorant was originally the biggest struggle I’ve encountered in natural hygiene care. There are SO many options, and they all seem to create a different result. I’ve had the skin in my pits BURN OFF from bad deodorant options. I’ve also had deodorant MELT in my pits, dripping down my sides … I’ve also used homemade deodorants, which are super great and allow you to directly control what’s being absorbed through your lymphatic system (umm hello, aluminum and breast cancer …), but it can be difficult to make/time consuming, and honestly just turns out different each time.
Without one doubt, Schmidt’s Naturals is the answer to your pit nightmares. Made with natural plant and mineral ingredients, it’s safe and still super (surprisingly) effective. I don’t know what they did over there at Schmidt’s Naturals, but they sure got their ingredients just right. Plus they have such fun options such as Charcoal Magnesium, and Rose Vanilla. Their deodorants smell wonderful, don’t leave you smelling, and definitely don’t burn your skin or drip down your sides. It’s soft and goes on perfect without leaving any clumps. This deodorant is seriously perfect! And it’s available too, you can pick it up at Target or on Amazon, although I do order mine directly from their website with free shipping codes.
Bonus: Also, you should check out a cool episode on the Almost 30 podcast, featuring Schmidt’s founder Jame Schmidt, and how she got to where she is today. Almost 30 also offers a discount code!
I’ve been using Toms fluoride free Toothpaste for a few years now. To create an honest line of communication with you all, I’m actually not a fan of other Tom’s products, and Tom’s deodorant is the one that burned off all the skin in my pits. (Ugh, still not over that) BUT I do like and appreciate Tom’s line of fluoride free toothpastes. [Plus it’s important to me to maintain fluoride free, despite any controversy you may be familiar with regarding that topic.]
Tom’s comes in a few different mint like flavors, and still suds up your mouth for a great clean feeling. Plus they provide you with that after wash mint refreshing feel, that some natural toothpastes just can’t seem to achieve. Tom’s also doesn’t test on animals, and doesn’t include any artificial flavors or preservatives. They have options specific to help whiten your pearls, and it won’t break the bank either. I typically buy Tom’s in packs of 2 from Amazon for under $10.
P.S. So I’m not even going to lie to you, I’ve recently heard such great things about Schmidt’s Naturals toothpaste line, you know – the deodorant company from above. (#SorryNotSorry Tom’s) But I haven’t yet gotten to try their product, and they have been sold out for a few weeks. Review: TBD.
#RealTalk, I don’t know about you, but I definitely do not want to insert any harsh and dangerous chemicals directly into my Gina during my menstrual cycle. Pretty much every single product on store shelves is going to have chemicals in the cotton, such as glyphosate, used as a weed killer and linked to Monsanto and Cancer. Keep in mind, you would literally be forcing your body to absorb these chemicals for multiple days each month. #NotTodaySatan
Aside from feeling so many other feels about how difficult it is to have safe product care for women, I refuse to let this be the norm in my menstrual care. Personally, I try to limit my use of tampons in general, and still also want to explore the world of period panties and other alternatives, but when I do go for a tampon I always choose Lola.
The best part about Lola is that I don’t even have to leave my couch to buy it, with online subscriptions you can taylor towards your womanly needs. I like to edit my box to provide more of a super hold, as I only use tampons on my toughest days, and I also edit my subscription to every other month as I don’t go through them as quickly. Lola still makes plastic applicators, as we all know the struggle with cardboard, but they do also have the cardboard applicators, tampons without any applicator, and all of their products are also 100% organic cotton. PLUS, the plastic that they do use for their applicators is BPA free.
Bonus: The Almost 30 podcast offers a discount code for your first try. Also, Lola recently released new menstrual and sexual health products too!
Natural Hygiene Reminders
Key take away: Remember, remember, REMEMBER, to always read the ingredients on the labels of what you buy. If you’re going to be putting it ON your body or IN your body, it’s even more important than with anything else.
Seriously though, I can’t stress enough how crucial this is if you are trying to stick to natural self care and hygiene routines (or anything else natural for that matter). If you can’t pronounce it, there is probably a good chance it isn’t natural, and you might even want to spend more time researching that ingredient specifically. Educating yourself is your best tool and resource you can possible have. Knowledge is power and arms you in ways that will only help better you down the road. The first step is always just to begin somewhere, and remember to always give your natural products time to kick in before you decide it’s time to move on to something new.
Every step you take towards natural care helps to remove and reduce the amount of toxins in your body, creating more beauty both inside and out.
Glow baby, glow!
